No. TimeThis can only post time to Basecamp Classic and activeCollab2 accounts covered by plans that offer time tracking (read more on our blog). Time tracking is currently included with Plus, Premium and Max Basecamp plans and activeCollab Corporate licenses. If you are unsure which type of plan covers your project management account, consult the account owner at your company.
We gladly welcome any feedback you wish to offer. To report a bug, make a suggestion or provide comments, click the button with the bug icon in the lower right-hand corner of the application. You can also use the feedback form at http://ac.merryfools.com/public/index.php?path_info=submit.
When logged in to your activeCollab account, click the “Profile” link in the upper right-hand corner; then click the link to “API Settings” from the list on the right. You should now see the URL and API Key, which should be pasted into the appropriate fields in the Server Settings tab of the TimeThis Settings panel. (Be sure to delete any leading or trailing spaces that may have been added to the copied link by your browser.)
You will need to adjust the API state of your activeCollab installation. By default, the activeCollab API is set to “Read-Only”. To accept time submitted through TimeThis, the API state must be changed to “Read and Write”. Instructions on how to make this change can be found in our “TimeThis: Submitting Time and the activeCollab API” blog post.
When you change your activeCollab password, your API Key for activeCollab changes as well. Refer to question #2 above for instructions on locating your new API Key.
The URL for Basecamp is simply the URL to your organization’s instance of Basecamp; for example, http://myaccount.basecamphq.com, where “myaccount” is your organization’s name.
To get your Basecamp API key, log in to your Basecamp account and click the “My Info” link in the upper right-hand corner. Next, click “Show your tokens” in the “Authentication tokens” box at the bottom. Copy the token from the “Token for feed readers or the Basecamp API” field, and paste it into the appropriate field in the Server Settings tab of the TimeThis Settings panel. (Be sure to delete any leading or trailing spaces that may have been added to the copied link by your browser.)
If you cannot retrieve or submit information from and to Basecamp after entering your API URL and key properly, then your Basecamp account owner needs to enable API access for the account. Instructions on how to enable the Basecamp API for your account can be found in our “TimeThis: Enabling the Basecamp API” blog post.
Choose a project from the drop-down menu on the Projects tab. Once the project loads, click the Project name to expand the rounding and billing preferences pane. Move the slider to your desired rounding increment. By default, the Billable box is checked; if time tracked to the project is not billable, click the box to uncheck it.
Once you’ve chosen a project from the drop-down menu on the Projects tab, you’ll see the task lists associated with the project (these are your “Checklists” in activeCollab or your “To-do lists” in Basecamp). After expanding a task list, you may click the “+TASK” link on the right side of the list name; in the pane that opens, enter the information requested by your project site.
Note: When you are adding a task to activeCollab from TimeThis, the Due Date will default to the date the task is created unless you specify a different one. (The Due Date can be changed at any time from your activeCollab account; consult activeCollab documentation for instructions on how to change it.)
Find your task by project and task list on the Projects tab, and then simply click the stopwatch icon next to the task name to create a timer. This new timer will now appear on your Timers tab, from which you can start the timer.
If you do not currently have an active timer, you can start one by clicking the play button for any timer on the Timers tab. Once a timer is running on the Active Timer tab, you will see a pause button next to the time on the Active Timer tab and next to the timer name on the Timers tab; clicking either will pause the time. Resume the timer by clicking the play button again on either the Active Timers tab or the Timers tab.
Clicking “Post Time” will, after successfully posting time to your project site, completely stop a timer and remove it from the Active Timer tab. To completely stop a timer without posting time, hit the “Clear Timer” button on the lower left of the Active Timer tab. (You can also start a new timer and, when prompted, select “Overwrite” to replace the current active timer with a new one.)
On the Timers tab, click the stopwatch icon to the left of the timer name.
No. When a task or to-do is completed, the saved timer for that task must be deleted manually.
You can create as many timers as there are tasks for a project.
Clicking the name of any task within a task list on the Projects tab will open the task list in a TimeThis browser window; you’ll see exactly what you see in a Web browser, so the available info will vary depending on which project site you use.
Simply start a new timer and, when prompted, click “Overwrite” to replace the current active timer with a new one.
Click in the year, month or day field to select the current entry and change it. Do the same for the hour, minute or AM/PM fields for the start time.
Double-click the unit you’d like to change (hours, minutes or seconds); this will highlight the old value, which you can then change by typing in a new value. Note: You must resume the timer for at least a second before clicking “Post Time”, or the old value will be committed instead of the new value.
In activeCollab, choose the appropriate project, and then click the Time tab. Find the entry by date for the time you posted from TimeThis, and you will see the comments in the Summary section next to the Task name.
In Basecamp, choose the appropriate project, and then click the Time tab. Find the entry by date for the time you posted from TimeThis, and you will see the comments immediately below the To-do name.
Right now, TimeThis works with activeCollab and Basecamp.
Just choose the platform you want to use in the “Platform Type” drop-down menu in the Server Settings tab of the TimeThis Settings panel, and then click “Connect”. Switching back and forth is especially easy, since TimeThis saves your timers for each platform and loads them according to which one you’re presently using.
Mixing timers from each project platform is not supported.
